Performing Arts

The Wakefield Performing Arts Program is dedicated to fostering well-rounded, versatile performers, arts advocates, and cultural leaders.

Students are encouraged to discover, explore, and be challenged through music, dance, theatre, and academic study, developing both a deep appreciation for the performing arts and an understanding of its rich traditions and evolving forms. At the program's core lies the recognition of art as the confluence of theory, practice, and creativity. We are committed to respecting the voice of the individual while cultivating a strong curiosity for one's journey as a performing artist.

The George L. Ohrstrom Jr. Theater and Auditorium provides a state-of-the-art venue for students to develop their performance and technical theatre skills. This dynamic space supports both creative exploration and rigorous practice. The GLO was made possible through the generosity of Wakefield alumna Molly Dunning Ohrstrom '86, her husband Clarke Ohrstrom, and the George L. Ohrstrom Jr. Foundation, whose lead gift enabled the completion of fundraising and construction of the facility.

Our Vision

The vision of the department contributes to Wakefield's teaching excellence; providing students with opportunities to apply what they learn by working with high-caliber faculty, and theatre professionals within the George L. Ohrstrom Jr. Theater, the school's robust production season, and opportunities for students across grade levels in music, theatre, and dance.
