Congratulations to rising seniors Lauren D., Zach L., Chase R., and Sophie S. on successfully completing the Youth Cadet Law Enforcement Camp this summer. Throughout the program, they participated in physical fitness training, leadership development, water survival instruction, defensive driving exercises, firearms safety and marksmanship training, and educational experiences at the Virginia War Memorial. Guided by Virginia State Troopers and American Legion counselors, students were challenged to grow in responsibility, resilience, teamwork, and leadership while gaining insight into careers in public service. Special congratulations to Lauren D., who earned top rank in female marksmanship. We also extend our sincere thanks to the Haymarket American Legion for generously funding tuition for these students, making this meaningful and transformative experience possible. #WakefieldWay #CharacterCuriosityClearVoices #haymarketva #gainesvilleva #warrentonva

This past week, members of the Wakefield community volunteered at the Middleburg Humane Foundation booth during the Upperville Horse Show, helping connect shelter animals with loving homes. Their efforts have already contributed to three adoptions, including Tika, a diabetic dog who had been one of the shelter’s longest residents. It’s a beautiful example of the values we strive to live every day at Wakefield - service, compassion, and the power of showing up for others. We are proud of our students and families who continue to make a difference in our community. #WakefieldWay #CharacterCuriosityClearVoices #gainesvilleva #middleburgva #haymarketva #warrentonva #ServiceAndCompassion #UppervilleHorseShow middleburghumanefoundation

Last week in Mrs. Hardesty’s chemistry class, students took the lead with engaging projects and live demonstrations. Each student explored a real-world topic of personal interest, applying their understanding of chemical bonding to explain how structure influences properties and behavior. Along the way, they demonstrated strong scientific reasoning, thoughtful analysis, and the ability to clearly communicate complex ideas. We loved seeing their curiosity and confidence on display. #CharacterCuriosityClearVoices #WakefieldWay #haymarketva #GainesvilleVA #warrentonva #ScienceInAction #publicspeaking

A full-circle moment for creativity! Mrs. Jones’ Kindergarten students began by drawing pictures of their dream stuffed animals. Mrs. Northrup then brought those drawings to her Intro to Studio Art Upper School class, where designs were randomly selected to be transformed into real plushies. Using newspaper to enlarge the drawings into patterns, students cut, sewed, and stuffed each creation by hand. Some even learned to use the sewing machine along the way. This morning, the Upper School artists presented their finished plushies to the Kindergarten students who first imagined them. There were smiles all around! #WakefieldSchool #StudentCreativity #FullCircleLearning #WakefieldWay #CharacterCuriosityClearVoices #Buddies

Learning came to life yesterday for Mrs. Mullett’s first graders! After wrapping up their unit on continents and habitats, the class took a special trip to Mrs. Hardesty’s classroom for an exciting animal scavenger hunt. While there, they teamed up with Upper School students, making the experience even more meaningful. These younger-older student partnerships are such a special part of our community, giving younger students role models to learn from and older students the chance to lead and connect. Together, they explored where their class animals come from and discovered the native habitats they call home. Hands-on learning, connection, and a little adventure made for a memorable day! #WakefieldCommunity #HandsOnLearning #WakefieldWay #CharacterCuriosityClearVoices #HaymarketVA #WarrentonVA #GainesvilleVA

Last night was a truly transformational evening for our Wakefield community. As we celebrated our 30th Anniversary Gala Auction, our community showed up in incredible ways—through the Silent Auction, Live Auction, and one of the most meaningful moments of the night: Raise the Paddle. While paddles were raised high in the room, many in our community also joined from afar—coming together to help raise the $100,000 match needed to unlock a $100,000 grant from the Edward E. Ford Foundation and create a $200,000 investment in teaching excellence at Wakefield School. This grant directly supports our educators, funding professional development opportunities that empower them to refine their craft, explore new ideas, and bring innovation into the classroom. ✨ There is still time to be part of this moment. We invite you to watch the powerful video shared at the Gala and see firsthand how investing in our teachers transforms our students’ experience—and be part of it. Together, we can meet the match and invest in the educators who inspire, challenge, and support them every day. 🔗 onecau.se/rtp

Wakefield juniors recently reached a major milestone: the Junior Thesis Forum After months of drafting, revising, and refining 12–15 page research papers, students presented original literary analyses on works of their choosing, learning firsthand that finding your voice takes persistence. From sessions like Dystopia and the Architecture of Control to Guilt and the Fractured Hero, each student delivered a concise presentation and responded to live questions, pushing their thinking even further. The evening challenged students to not only defend their ideas, but to trust them, an essential step in becoming confident, independent thinkers. As one student reflected: “Having confidence in yourself comes from knowing what you are doing.” #WakefieldWay #CharacterCuriosityClearVoices #HaymarketVA #GainesvilleVA #WarrentonVA

Our students have a question for you. During J-Term, Wakefield students in grades 8–12 explored everything from robotics to filmmaking—and one group took on something special: documenting Wakefield’s history. As they dug into archives and old photos, they realized something was missing: alumni voices. The students themselves asked to create a short survey so they could learn which teachers, traditions, and moments shaped your Wakefield experience—and how those memories still matter today. Your reflections will directly shape their documentary and help carry Wakefield’s story forward. Share your Wakefield story here:

Alumni - Triple Your Impact! Join the $10,000 Alumni Torch Match Challenge on Wakefield Giving Day! From now through Giving Day, we’re rallying the entire Wakefield family—alumni, parents, faculty, and friends—to raise $150,000 for the Wakefield Fund, which sustains the timeless qualities that have defined an exceptional Wakefield education for decades: inspired academics and classical studies, character development rooted in Virtue and Wisdom, vibrant performing and visual arts, championship-level athletics, and dynamic experiential learning that prepares students to make a meaningful impact on the world around them. This year’s Giving Day is especially exciting for our alumni—Every alumni gift can TRIPLE in impact! Thanks to the Alumni Torch Match, all alumni donations will be matched dollar-for-dollar up to $10,000—and then doubled again through the Trustee Trophy $50,000 Challenge. It ensures future generations of Wakefield students can experience the same joy, discovery, and growth that defined your years here. And to add some nostalgic fun, join 11 AM on Giving Day, join the Power Hour Challenge to show your Spartan or Athenian pride!
