Expert Parenting Insights: Navigating Online Safety
Wakefield Brings in Experts from FBI Washington Field Office for Parent Education Night

Wakefield School is proud to partner with the FBI Washington Field Office for a special Parent Education Night focused on helping families understand and address the online risks children face today. This free, public event will provide parents and guardians with practical strategies to keep their children safe and informed in an increasingly digital world.
About the Event

Today’s children are growing up in a digital landscape that moves faster than many adults ever imagined. Platforms like Roblox, Discord, and other online spaces can create meaningful opportunities for learning and connection—but they can also be places where children are vulnerable, often at younger ages than parents expect.
During this session, experts from the FBI Child Exploitation Human Trafficking Task Force will share practical, actionable guidance to help families understand how online exploitation happens and how to take steps to protect their children.
The presentation will cover:
- Current trends in online exploitation and how predators use familiar platforms to target children
- Warning signs that may indicate grooming or other digital threats
- Practical strategies for creating safer digital environments at home
- When and how to involve law enforcement if concerns arise
- Resources and tools for families who want to stay informed and proactive
The session will conclude with an interactive Q&A, giving parents the opportunity to engage directly with federal experts and gain valuable insight into online safety.
How This Partnership Came About
The FBI Child Exploitation Human Trafficking Task Force is dedicated to protecting children from online exploitation, trafficking, and other digital threats. Through partnerships with schools and communities, the Bureau works to equip parents, educators, and caregivers with the knowledge and strategies to keep children safe.
Wakefield’s connection with the FBI was forged through the Citizens Academy, an invitation-only program that provides community leaders with direct insight into federal work on safety and security. Ashley Harper, Head of School, and Steve Dodson, Director of Safety & Security, are both graduates of this program—giving Wakefield a direct line to trusted expertise on issues affecting children and families.
